About the Boat

KUDA LAUT is a charter vessel to the Mentawai’s and is one of the original operators in the area and possibly the best value trip going.

KUDA LAUT has been doing charters to the Mentawai's, Telos, Nias and Banyak Islands for 18 seasons. So, she knows how to find the best waves with the least crowds in Sumatra, from the Lagundry Bay in Nias, the Hinakos, to the bay of plenty in the Banyaks, the telos long rights, also the famous waves in the Mentawai's such as Rifles, No kandui, Ebay, etc in the Playground, to Telescopes, Bintangs, Ht's, Lances, Maccas, Rags, Thunders, Greenbush, the Hole and much much more!

We specialize in small groups of 6 people, but are capable of taking 8 passengers if you have a couple of extra mates who want to come along for the ride. KUDA LAUT is a 58 foot wooden motorsailer built from Sumatran iron wood. She has an 80hp engine and travels at 8 knots, also a 12 kva genset giving 220 volt power. And the trip will be for 11 nights 10 days.

Her safety equipments include: Garmin GPS, 16mile Radar, Furuno depth sounder, Fishfinder, SSB and VHS radios, EPIRB, 2 compass, Life Jackets & Safety Rings, Fire Extinguishers, Two anchors, medical and first aid kit.

Your guide and owner, Michael “Moose” Matthew, has been operating in these areas for ages! He is the well-known Great Captain with good personality and knowledge. The Indonesian crew are fully qualified provide great services. And going on charter with Kuda Laut also means that you can do snorkeling and also catch some delicious fish! We have snorkeling gear, some rods and hand fishing equipments.
